some in the mitt romney campaign who told mitt romney that he was going to win. in my mind, it was obvious all along. it is my business as a political analyst for fox news to look at polls, to ask hard questions about voter turnout models. consistently, the answer was president obama has a strong hand here and is likely to win in terms of those key swing states that were going to determine the electoral map. if you were going into this election the weekend before, it was pretty overwhelming, obama wins. gallup had them about even. there were some conservative pollsters who thought it was going to be a romney landslide. when we think young people are going to fade away and they are not as happy with president obama. you would say look at the reality of what pollsters are funding and they would say, no, and they thought there would be waived. it became wishful pecking by people talking to each other by people who work locked in a bubble. to finally come back to where you started, our people don't like president obama and who have on fairly demonized him and i think

millionaires and mitt romney get a pass. they only pay social security on a little of their income. the last debt limit cost taxpayers $25 million because we have to pay interest to banks we still give loans to for free. what i would like to see is entitlement reform. if you are retired from congress and you are a millionaire, you do not get a pension. you do not get health care. if you go to work as a lobbyist, you do not get a pension either. that is the entitlement reform i would like to see. >> a little bit more from the article that just came out on line. according to one republican in the conference room, kantor went robe on the messaging and clearly his colleagues and leadership by surprise with his decision to come out against the bill. technically, the agreement was not yet dead, but boehner's control of this congress is practically nonexistent at this point and there is virtually no chance he can marshal the 120 republicans he insists he needs. tweets are fast and furious. host: next call comes from rick in point pleasant, was to virginia. a democrat. caller: they need to

i will guarantee that 90% of the people who went to the polls and voted this year voted for romney and obama cannot differentiate or define the difference between the annual deficit and the national debt. the national debt is the fiscal cliff. we say it's unsustainable. from a mathematical standpoint, it is almost insurmountable. the only thing these taxes will do, i have graduate students who could not put into words what a trillion dollars was. host: go ahead and finish your thought on what these taxes will do. caller: what they will do is they will give the politicians a little leeway to fool around with the national deficit, the annual deficit, but they will not put a dent in the $16 trillion debt that we owe. that is the problem. host: we appreciate that call. over the past couple weeks, c- span has been conducting interviews with some of the retiring members. we have been showing those interviewed this week. tonight, one of the retiring members we spoke with is representative lynn woolsey, a democrat of california, served about 20 years. here's a portion of that interview. . >> mitt romney kept saying this country could be on the road to be more like greece if we did not get our arms around it. the unemployment rate remains high. are you optimistic in the short term about our country's future. >> it is hard to be. i tried to be. if we can get this resolved, this fiscal cliff situation, and have a pathway to seeing the deficit be reduced, cannot do it overnight, if we can see there is a path, a trajectory of slowing down the growth of spending to the point you can see the deficit will ultimately go away over a reasonable time, people will start investing again, hiring again, and i spoke to a business group yesterday and asked if they would hire just because they get a tax credit for hiring people. they said no. if you see the deficit will go away and there is hope we are on the right path to fiscal sanity, will you then hired? yes. we will have markets for our products and services and then we will need more people. we are stuck right now because all we have done for a year and a half was kick the can down the road. i voted against the act a year- and-a-ha
